I belong to a church in the western suburbs of Chicago... and it just so happens that many of the congregation members are professional musicians. After talking about it for two years, we're finally doing a church jam day. There'll be a pro rhythm section (me, a bassist, and drummer), and folks are signing up from the congregation to sit in... so far we've lined up a couple vocalists, a sax, another guitar and bass, some latin percussion... we're figuring doing 3 hours of jazz standards from the Real Book.
It'll be Sunday 3/20 at 3pm. Slots are going to congregation folks first, but we'll probably have room for more. Because the venue is small (approx 140-160 seating), I'm not publishing details - but if you're interested PM me and I'll see what space we still have.
We're tentatively planning to do this monthly if it works out well.
