my band experienced the first gig this last Saturday. everything went as planned. yes, there were a few mistakes, but all were minor and only the band members heard them. except for one time. the other guitar player had changed strings earlier in the week and they were stretching all night. he had to retune after every song. once time he retuned way too low so when we started a song something sounded way off. I stopped everyone and make light of the problem while he checked his tuner. good thing the audience didn't pay to get in and most of them were our friends.
the word is we rocked the house. I played lap steel on two songs, Sleepwalk, and David Lindley's Mercury Blues. the lap steel got a lot of attention. apparently we're the only rock band with them. SCORE.
during the end of the last set the place filled up with a bus load of people coming back from a National League Ball game. the dance floor erupted with wild dancing and calls for 'one more song'. it was a nice rush.
we left them wanting more. driving home through the countryside I could feel a huge grin on my face. I had sooo much fun. so did my bandmates.
we played a small rural venue. although in the middle of nowhere the bar and dance hall get good groups and players there. some were Grammy winners (Bill Miller). we are excited to be invited back. as you can see in the pics it is a cool place to gig.
my gear is on the left of the stage. my trusty strat, a Hwy1 t3le tuned to open G like Keith Richards. I play HonkyTonk Woman Blues on it. by raising the fifth string back to A and leaving everything else tuned open G, I have one of Neil Young's tunings. I play Cinnamon Girl. the lap steels are tuned C6 and open E.

Cool, db! 8)
I'll bet you rocked the (road)house.
Sounds like a great set list; any chance you can post the whole thing?
Congrats!

Sounds great Dog, we just had our debut gig last Thursday with similar results some very minor mistakes that no one in the audience even heard.

Ours wasn't a full show we only played for an hour but it was fun, people dancing etc.

I can't see your set list it's blocked here at work but from the couple songs you listed we play music that's alot heavier rock. That's the music I like to listen to usually but I'm not sure we can gig with all those songs there aren't necessarily alot of dance tunes that we play and I don't imagine us playing at bars filled with 20 - 30 yo but you never know.

The owner of the bar definitely said we can play there whenever we wanted but we need some more songs before we do that since we just added a new guitar player about 2 months ago he hasn't learned all the music yet.

Let's hope our 2nd shows go as good as the first.

thanks everybody. I have always said that playing guitars with somebody is great. playing in front of friends and strangers is even better. you can feel the synergy.

Nadine (Chuck Berry)
[second set] at our gig we played two full sets thn took a break.
Honky Tonk Woman

Dead Flowers
Once A Day (old Connie Smith song)

Who'll Be the Next in Line( we extended this song with to short solos) can't beat The Kinks !

Just to Satisfy You ( Waylon and Willie)
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere ( I play an extended riff)
[set three]
Mr Soul ( Buffalo Springfield )
Should I Stay or Should I Go
I Don't Wanna Grow Up ( Ramones !)
Mercury Blues
Pink Cadillac
I Want You to Want Me

they got us to play a pull up Born to be Wild
that's when the beer started spilling. they were into it.

That's a great looking set list. We do several of those too. Little Sister is one of our best right now. I love playing the bass line on that one.
