I' m playing a small gig this saturday with my current three piece "Percophobia". Only wished we'd had more time to practice all three of us at the same time

We had a run through yesterday - and it was - oh well - ranging from not too good, to disastrous.

Among the songs we attempt to do:
Something
Birthday
Maybe I'm Amazed
Sultans of Swing
I will survive
Roxanne
Don't look back in anger
Brain Damage
Come together

Lots of lead guitar to be done here and there    :?

Getting nervous! I can play it, but if I start worrying that it will fall apart as we play, I'm in trouble

Anyone with a few spare optimistic thoughts to send over?

sure. I fill in as a guitar or bass player for a friends classic cover band every now and then. it is usually a moments notice.
I learned the crowd does not hear the flubs. they just want to interact to the groove the band is laying down.
we all know the songs , the band knows the arrangement, I don't, all I do is listen and play the song I grew up with.
I watch the other players and follow the singer's cues. it works out fine. play with energy and with a smile.

I can't offer ny advice, but I AM sending some good vibes your way. As they say, break a leg!

Only piece of advice I can give you is something that you already know - go have fun. If the band is enjoying themselves, it makes it a lot easier for the audience to enjoy themselves as well. As Dogbite says, they just want to have fun, so if you're nervous, chances are they'll be nervous for you as well.

Have a good time and let the crowd give you vibes to feed off and give back in return. We'll look forward to hearing how things go.

Peace

Wishing you the very best of luck for the gig. You can include 'Sweet Home Albama' in that list. Its a pretty groovy tune and should be able to talk with the crowd.

Enjoy !

Lars, of course you're more experienced than I am but I do get up and join a friend of mine at a local bar and play about 11 songs with him, just rhythm. He enjoys that kind of stuff, especially a guest singer.

When I'm up there playing, I notice that, most people aren't paying attention anyway, and I relax, and just play and if I make a mistake (and I do, just keep the rhythm going ) nobody really notices!

It's just fun! I just wish that I could do some lead for this guy and then I'm adding to what he does….

Thanks guys!!
Know very well that we are supposed to have fun :D I'm afraid we're to nervous. But Ill try. The Pete Townsend clip Wes posted in another thread some days ago is great inspiration

I don't know about experienced - I only realise that year by year the fear of screwing up grows - should have been the other way around huh?

And Rahul - it's a bit late to add new song to the reportoire - 'though I think I know the intro riff ...

If I'm not put away permanently after performing Brain Damage in public I will definitely post a report later :-)

You'd think so, but for many including myself, the opposite happens. :(

My suggestion. Play'm like you know'm.

Let the others faulter if they are going to. Someone has be lead. You might as well.

Tell them before hand if they get lost to follow you. Then if you make it up as you go, they shouldn't have problems.

Good luck, man!!

Congratulations Lars. You'll have a ball. Don't worry about the nerves, they'll give you a good edge. Play for yourself and the crowd will get the benefit of it.
