This is the second year we've done their Christmas party, and this year was much like last year. We had a few more people than last year - it was about 500 folks in the room.
One of the key requirements of a banquet gig like this is to be flexible. They've got announcements to make and awards to give out, and it's pretty much a given that serving dinner is going to take longer than they thought ("Y'all slip in line and get you a plate! There's plenty for the band too. If y'all want to take some home we can fill up a take-out box for you!"). They make sure everyone is well-fed and "watered."
That said, we fired up about 8:30PM after a quick sound check and had the dance floor bumping by the third song.
The fun part of these gigs is that you get to play a HUGE variety of music. The youngest person there was 12, and the oldest was 91. We ran the gamut from Current pop to hardcore honky-tonk, blues, funk, and classic rock. Just the kind of mix I love to do. it's a hoot to see gramps and the grandkids shaking a leg together
We're scheduled back in February for their Founder's Banquet (once again a repeat booking!) so we're pretty pleased both with the amount of fun we had, and that we're generating steady bookings with a great venue!

Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.
