Nick Simpson was part of duo/writers Ashford and Simpson, Valerie Ashford was also his wife I believe. They wrote Solid (As a Rock) and others.

yeah. you are right. I think my misunderstanding came from catching the tail end of the news report. I heard the announcer say,
' together, they wrote many hit songs'.
Sad news. Leiber/Stoller and Ashford/Simpson were two great songwriting teams. RIP Jerry, RIP Nick. And thank you for the great songs you gave us.
