Buck is known best of course for that incredible string of #1 hits in the 60's, and that "Buckaroo" backup sound led by the late, great Don Rich on Telecaster. I saw them live twice in Toronto, at Massey Hall in their heydey.

Not so well known about Buck was his own considerable skills as a lead guitar player and session man, which is what he was long before his vocal success.
I have a treasured (basically scratch-free) vinyl classic of his, called "Buck Owens The Guitar Player", Capitol ST-2994, it is 11 instrumentals written and played by Owens, with the Buckaroos as backup. They range from Spanish-Mexican influence, to Rag-type songs and Polkas. Damn good flatpickin'.
R.I.P., Buck.
