Does anyone have any experience with the Washburn D46S12? Is this a decent 12-string? It sells for around $400 i think, so I wouldn't consider it an el cheapo.
Obviously, I can't speak for your tastes, but I think you just got a bad apple. I've found you generally get what you pay for in guitars, with some noteable exceptions. 12s do give a chorusy sound - that's the idea - but, to me, it sounds different than a chorus pedal. If you don't like the digital effect, don't automatically disregard 12s. Good ones can sound really nice.
I think they are similar to a resonator, and to what Nick said; you pretty much have to get a good one to get a reasonable sound.
