OK, we've got a thread going on this forum about fave Dylan songs.... just out of curiosity, what's your fave Dylan song done by someone else?
Mine are...in no particular order....
If You Got To Go - Manfred Mann
Si Vous Voudrai Partir - Fairport Convention...same song as above, but sung in French!
You Angel You - Manfred Mann's Earth Band
A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall - Bryan Ferry
Like A Rolling Stone - The Rolling Stones
Mr Tambourine Man - The Byrds
My Back Pages - The Byrds
All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
If You Got To Go is one of the all-time pub classics....if we do it in D, I can even manage the harmonica solo.....
There are probably a few more I've forgotten, but doubtless some of you will rekindle old memories.....

Guess the old familiar Knockin' on Heavens Door...
Which one, Arjen? The Guns'n'Roses version?
Please, don't anyone mention the Gabrielle rip-off of KOHD, which she had the effrontery to call "Rise"....

Actually the Pink Floyd version, and I'm not sure if my version is genuine or not. In any case it is much different and far less smooth then most covers.
I am not a Dylan fan, but I love the early-80s cowpunk version of Absolutely Sweet Marie by Jason & The Scorchers. :D
"Everybody got to elevate from the norm."
Not a Dylan fan either but for me it has to be Jimi's version of All along the watchtower
"It's all about stickin it to the man!"
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!

I have to agree.
And also "Knockin On Heavens door" Eric Clapton.
Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

Yep, Clapton's KOHD and Jimi's All Along the Watchtower for me.
Dylan fan? Not HArdly. I'd like to meet the guy that told him he could sing so I could punch him in the mouth.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW--What a Ride!"
LOL, TF....had a flashback there to an old John Wayne film....
Richard Boone (dying, having been shot by JW)...."Mister, just who the hell are you?"
JW...."Jacob McCandless"
RB....."I thought you were dead...."
JW....."Not hardly!"

i like the dave matthews band version of watchtower.
the band's cover of "i shall be released" is pretty sweet.
When I saw Dylan perform "Watchtower" in concert, he performed basically a cover of Hendrix's cover of his song. To me, that's a mark of a great song: another artist discovers a dimension of the tune that the original composer hadn't yet realized and therefore the song, possessed of a life of its own, evolves.
Well we all shine on--like the moon and the stars and the sun.

"I play live as playing dead is harder than it sounds!"
I'm late to this party, but...
Chimes of Freedom - Bruce Springsteen
To Ramona - Sinead Lohan
I Shall Be Released - Chrissie Hynde
If You Gotta Go, Go Now - Cowboy Junkies
Love Minus Zero/No Limit - Eliza Gilkyson
A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall - Edie Brickell
Boots of Spanish Leather - Nanci Griffith
Don't Think Twice - Indigo Girls & Joan Baez
Only A Hobo - Jonathon Edwards & Seldom Scene
All Along the Watchtower - Michael Hedges
When the Ship Comes In - Arlo Guthrie
Forever Young - Bruce Springsteen (from a PBS documentary on John Hammond)
I've found covers to be the best way to get non-Dylan fans to appreciate the man's songwriting.
Blame it on the lies that killed us, blame it on the truth that ran us down.
Definitly Clapton's Knocking on Heaven's door, although I like the GNR version as well.
And yeah, Hendrix' Watchtower is great.
