Hi, I'm 14 and I had a guitar somewhere around second grade, but I didn't get lessons so I didn't learn. I traded the guitar. Now I want to get a new guitar and take lessons for my birthday. I like rock/hard rock/metal (lately I've really liked Mushroomhead and Disturbed). What would be a good guitar for me(Ilive right by a Guitar Center)? I really like the B.C. Rich Metal Master Pack http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_b.c._rich_metal_master_pack?full_sku=101515328 , but I'm open to suggestions. Also, what is a good pedal to go with it for the kinda music I want to play? Thanks.

I never played that guitar but I'm pretty sure there are a couple here that can give reviews on B.C Rich guitars. As far as effects pedals go, I would wait until you get that amplifier, if it has a good distortion then figure out what your favorite guitar sound is (I loved the sound kirk hammett had in solos, so I picked up a crybaby wah), alot of people might recommend a wah-wah, chorus or even E.Q. If your amp doesn't have a good amp sound then try to look for a good distortion pedal. Don't feel that you HAVE to buy an effects pedal though.

That's just one guitar that I saw and liked. Please reccommend others, too. Thanks.

If you like the look and feel of the BC Rich, then cool. Try and look at what is in your price range guitar-wise and add to that what you will need to spend on an amp. If you like metal, then look at a small Marshall amp (since that will fit your budget), they have great metal distortion. Crate, Behringer, Peavey has some decent low priced amps with good distortion.

It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!

I would definitely go to a real live store and try one first. Don't look at it while your playing. Does it FEEL comfortable? Are the strings really high off the fretboard? Does it buzz on some frets? Plug it in. Try all the pickups. Does it sound good? Those are the most important things. I owned a BC Rich with a floyd rose trem. I liked the way it sounded but I hated the way it played. I bought it 'cause it looked cool. I sold it cause I hated playing it. Live and learn.

IMO you could probably do alot better for your money.I cant really recommend any others as I dont know much about cheaper guitar brands in the States, but I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction. The amps that come with these packages can be picked up on ebay for $20.
If you have a look at those reviews again you will see that only two of the reviewers actually own that guitar and they were'nt particularly impressed.

cheers

Since I'm getting this form my parents I decided that I will have them justget the guitar and I will get all of the accessories. That means I can geta $200-$300 guitar. What about the Ibanez RG321? http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_ibanez_rg321_electric_guitar?full_sku=512492%2e289 I've been jsut looking on the guitar center site at the $200-$300 range http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_ibanez_rg321_electric_guitar?full_sku=512492%2e289 This weekend I will probably go there and try them out.

In that price range, the RG321 is definitely nice looking for metal. I assume You would be trying to shred. I personally like this Epiphone : http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_epiphone_goth_g400_electric_guitar?full_sku=517232%2e001 simply because it offers two humbucking pickups also, but in addition it gives you a volume and tone control for both pickups, not just one volume and tone control. It also looks quite metal. It is not really a shredders guitar. I would say more of a rythym and riff guitar, but some really good lead work could be done on it.

Well, I thought I'd check back with you guys. I went to GC and actually tried out a few. I really liked the Schecter Omen 6, and the sales manager recommended it to me. Hopefully in 3 days (24th) I'll have it for my birthday along with lessons. I'll post back then.

Nice man. Shcecter make great guitars. You can thank Pete Townsend for bringing them out of the replacement parts business. It should be a good buy.

Mike, they had the C-1 there with a beautiful wood finish, which I really wanted, but it was a little too expensive.

Thanks Dagwood.

I got the guitar and a nice hard case from my parents yesterday. This thing is so fun, I've been playing it nonstop since I got home from school. With my money I bought a Line 6 Spider III 75 watt amp, which has awesome effects and presets. This Saturday is my first lesson.

Oh yeah, my friend says that the Omen 6 is pretty much the same quality as a Squier, is this true? I would think it should be a lot nicer since just the guitar itself is more than a whole Squier package. Thanks.
