Its really sad and jsut plain stupid (her and her situation). People like that are really ignorant and should be given a taste of what poeple in poverty go through, and jsut normal people. She gets a video tape of hers passed around the internet, and her parents do nothing. The sad part is America loves to watch her go around and flaunt her stupidity, and they keeps her going because she has such a large audience. I have never really cared for Paris Hilton. Wouldn't it be nice if they actually contributed to helping those poor people? Also, they had signs everywhere that said "fight poverty" I guess Paris left her reading skills at home that day.

I'm done

Well, she said she'll read up on it, so give the pornstar a break. Maybe after she does 'read up on it' her family will donate some money. Didn't Bill Gates donate 40 billion to Africa to help fight AIDS a few years ago?

I hope you're right about their, hopeful, donations. You see, the Hiltons are way too good to donate their money to help fight AIDS and poverty, but they jump at the chance to have an American reality show where they give the winner 250 grand. I jsut find this saddening, and I know, if I would ever have their kind of money, I would certainly donate some millions to help the fight.

...that useless stick of mediocrity called Paris Hilton

Mediocrity? That would be a giant leap up for Ms. Hilton. I would settle for her being mediocre at anything useful.

I was flipping through the channels last night and there was a 4th of July celebrity thingy on, and Paris talked about how proud she was of our troops and the job they're doing in the war, yadda yadda. I couldn't help but laugh. I could just picture when the cameras went off her saying "What's a troop? War? What war? We're in a war? Iraq? Is that near Los Angeles?"

Paris Hilton= Stupidity at its finest

It really amazes me how people can be so oblivious when the truth is staring right at them. All we can do is hope one day that they realize the problem that we have been trying to fight for many years now.

Sorry, I haven't really been following this topic... I didn't watch it on T.V. (I don't have Cable or Sattelite, just PBS and the news channels...) but I didn't hear the buzz about it and watched it on AOL... Paul McCartney was pretty good IMO and the performance of Sgt. Pepper's with U2 was my favorite of his... (espescially the french horn players... 8) ), Pink Floyd were awesome for being a bunch of old farts.. ...

R.E.M. , Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Green Day, and U2 were good too...
I don't normally like Coldplay, but I really like their version of "Bittersweet Symphony" by the Verve too....

For all who don't know what this is, these are the video's:

Hey All,

Since I am in Vancouver, the broadcast was entirely Canadian, except for highlights from London, Philly maybe a few clips here and there.

The Canadians were okay, but just saw them in the Tsunami relief concert in Vancouver only several months ago, so it was the same acts and songs (except for Gordon Lighfoot and Neil Young).

By far London had all the big name acts. Yes, Pink Floyd was fantastic (missed the first song, and I wished I caught it, no pun intended). Very surprised that Roger Waters didn't sing the last two songs, must be the condition of him rejoining again (maybe???).

I didn't see it, but I heard on the radio the next day, that Cream played White Room. Did anyone see this? Or was just Eric Clapton on his own?

Although I may not like every band that played, it still is great too see everyone chip in for the sake of human kind. And that's what it's really about after all.

Watched from lunchtime until the end of Floyd on BBC TV.

Think overall it was a good show. I can't imagine how difficult it is for the organisers to have to deal with the logistics of setting up so many bands, dealing with all the ego's flying around, etc etc. So I am not going to criticise any thing about the principle of the thing or the performers.

I thought Floyd "Outshone" the rest of the bands by a country mile. Gilmour can still make it sing, I thought Waters looked very nervous and this might have explained his vocals, but overall they were terrific. I got my acoustic out and played along to Wish You Were Here (come on, own up, how many of you did that?) - awesome to play along with Gilmour live. Loved it.

I don't know if any of you saw Craig David but they showed one track of him singing / rapping over a solo acoustic guitar. The guy on guitar was AWESOME i am telling you. He was all over the fretboard and kept briliant time, did anyone else see that?

The Who were great. Daltry's scream was fantastic, made my spine tingle.

Well done Bob....

All the best

Matt

I can't speak for the dumb-ass woman you're all on about. Never even heard of her. Doesn't sound like I am missing much!

Apparently there wasn't much coverage in Africa, either.

I got everybody from UB40 to Floyd with the exception of a screwed feed during Madonna - I presume the demand must have been phenomenal - but I haven't had a chance to check out the quality yet cos I've been busy getting the Foo Fighters Live at Roswell onto tape.

Best,

A :-)

Great to see Pete Townsend still rocks at 60,
U2, REM and Pink Floyd were superb and even though I'm not a big fan Madonna was great...
Got to say Paul Doherty ruined a Bolan classic...!

I've just watched Elton John and Docherty do Children of the Revolution.

My word. The look on Elton's face when Docherty appeared, with a lighter in his mouth. Looked so drunk (or worse....) and didn't seem to know half the words. I am sure Elton signalled to the band to cut it short.

Totally agree, he ruined it. And he's meant to be one of the young "talents" out there.

Seems to me the "old farts" at Live 8 did a great job of making some of the yound pretenders look second rate. Maybe that's why there is a switch to proper music again, like jazz. Jamie Cullum for instance, knows his stuff and is excellent. Maybe even the masses are getting cheesed off with the same old boy / girl bands churning out the same old formula crap.

Hope so anyway! ha ha

Matt
