Anyone know bands, preferably modern, that are similar to these? I'm guessing the genre is swing and/or jazz but figured it'd be easier to post the videos.

Hi :D

It would be hard to pigeonhole the Squirrel Nut Zippers....
They are a fusion of a few styles, including: Delta-Blues, Swing, Gypsy Jazz, and Calypso amongst others.

If you look up their Wiki article, it will give you some specific influences from the past, as well as styles they fuse.

Looking up Retro-Swing Ensembles will give you a list of similar 'more modern' musical groups.

Have fun - The Zippers are great! (I got my Granma into them! )

Hi,

Cherry Poppin Daddies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNJyAcgMS4A

Some of Brian Setzer's stuff, although he quite a bit of 50's rockabilly in there too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMlc6Vw2tg8

Enjoy!

Just had to point this one out that I just found by Setzer. He covers the Big Band classic, In The Mood, done by Glenn Miller originally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUh6TAll_7o&feature=related

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go surf something that'll make me feel young.

I checked out a couple of those bands. Samples are hard to find. Brian Seltzer wasn't bad. I liked Hep Cat Daddies. I liked Cherry Poppin Daddies. Don't care much for the instrumental stuff though.

If anyone knows where to find lessons on how to play this style, feel free to post them.
