against being this good.
RIP SRV
That was kind of.....blah. Just a matter of taste but when it started I thought he was going to eventually get to a song or build up to something, but that's all he did, just played fast.
i agree, it's a matter of taste.
but imo he does a heck of a lot more than just "play fast"

Naw that was just a little known instrumental from stevie that's just him smokin' along. Not really meant to be a real song.
I think SRV is a great balance of speed and style.
Go watch Live at the El Mocambo. If that doesn't do it for you, you might be broken.
But all in all, its all about taste as you said. Not everyone will appreciate this guys playing but you gotta give it up, he's good at that end of the neck blues and can get some decent tone on that ole strat.
Thanks for that link, Phinnin. Unreal!
If I could only have one favorite, that'd be SRV.

SRV jams rock.
I always like seeing videos of the picking and freting hand at work.

Everything is 42..... again.
Its amazing isn't it. Its like every note he frets is a hammer-on. Such awesome tone in those fingers.

That tone prolly comes from his low tuning and use of heavy strings ( .10s or .11s) and of course years of focused practice.
RIP SRV
At this time I would like to tell you that NO MATTER WHAT...IT IS WITH GOD. HE IS GRACIOUS AND MERCIFUL. HIS WAY IS IN LOVE, THROUGH WHICH WE ALL ARE. IT IS TRULY -- A LOVE SUPREME --. John Coltrane
I actually heard that Stevie Ray used 13's tuned down half a step, anyway I think the reason his guitar sounds great is because he was a phenomenal guitar player.

I agree with one wing angel, I don't see the difference between what he's doing and what shredders do.

I was never a fan of SRV but you have to admit that boy can play...it's nothing like shredding to me, but OWA is right it's all a matter of taste, you either like it or you don't

It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!
13's were light for him. He used 18's at times.

i hear soul and the spirit of the blues in everything SRV played, i've never heard that from a shredder.
or maybe i misunderstand the definition.
reguardless it's apples and oranges.
