I'm just about to start learning acoustic guitar, and am considering a Yamaha SLG-100S silent guitar as my first instrument. I have two small kids, and realistically the only chance I'll have to practice is when they're in bed. Being able to play acoustic almost silently seems like a great option, but does anyone have experience with this guitar, and would you recommend it for a beginner?

Thanks!

I love it. Apart from having to get used to holding a full depth guitar later, I can't see why you'd have problems. Oh and walk slowly through airports. The TSA panics when they see the case.

I play mine through a Pandora PX4A which is very cool.

Make sure you carry the adapter, it eats batteries.

Sorry, didn't realise this had to go in a gear forum.

Thanks to Nick for the ultra-quick reply! Points duly noted.

Would anybody else with experience of this guitar care to comment? Good/Bad points?

It isn't really a bad point, since it's the nature of a silent guitar, but you'll need to get a little amp if you want to be heard. The pignose will work and I hear good things about the Roland Cube.
