Does anyone know of a good vocal instruction dvd? Or secrets for singing you could pass on. I love to sing but struggle with a
few things e.g. high notes....getting hoarse...thanks mike
IMO, there's only so much you can get out of vocal DVDs, not because they're not good, but because learning to sing is a complex process. Along the way you'll take some wrong turns, you'll regress, etc., and in such circumstances there is no substitute for a live vocal coach who can diagnose and fix the problems that emerge. Voice DVDs are necessarily short and very general; they won't take you very far and they won't be able to address your specific needs. It's possible to get fundamental breathing from a DVD, but it can't help you figure out why your high G notes, for example, sound like crap.
If you want a taste of a DVD lesson there are many of them on YouTube. A guy named Eric Arceneaux has posted a bunch of stuff, and a search on "voice lessons" or "singing lessons" will yield quite a bit of other material.
If lessons are impossible for you right now, I'd advise you to troll YouTube for a while, save your money, and then take a few real lessons. You won't be sorry.
