I recorded this quickly after school, but I have a problem. I used to sing fine without any tension in my neck, but now it's starting to hurt after a song or two and it's really annoying. I've been trying to sing with my diaphragm but my throat is still feeling soar afterwards.

I was just wondering if there are any members who could possibly explain what I may be doing wrong and how will I know if I am in fact using my diaphragm. Thanks.

Um, well I went to the site but there is nothing to listen too. Atleast, I could not find a way to play you. However, all is not lost. Its pretty easy to know if you are singing from your diaphram. Lie down, and sing your song. Is your tummy rising and falling? I learned that technique from a teacher of mine and while I wouldnt profess to really KNOW singing. I think that is the best way to know if you are singing correctly. You chest shouldnt really rise or fall if you are singing "correctly" but its kind of the same as guitar.... if it sounds good.. fine.

As far as I can tell it didn't sound like you were straining your voice on the sample... but are you drinking enough water? Sometimes if your vocal cords are dry and you are trying to sing that can make them sore...

Your voice sounds very good, especially for this type of music. If I had to guess what's making your throat hurt, I'd say that you may be blowing too much air over your cords. Your voice sounds breathy to me--which is a hallmark of this laid-back style, but which is not very good for your cords. You should probably try to be more "speaky" than "whispery"--you can do this and still keep a low volume.

You sing well. I hope you can work out that pain problem.
