Have any of you tried using an acoustic amp for lap steel? Just wondering since a Peavy Nashville or Fender Steel King is a little out of my pricce range.

I don't have an acousic amp so I play thru my Fender Vibrolux. a 1958 Gibson works fine too.
the SteelKing and the Peavy Nashville are fine amps. they are made for high volumes with no breakup. pedal steelers generally like clean all the way up.
can I say that lap steelers today like a buit of dirt or breakup in their sound. well, I do. I run an overdrive pedal as well.

Yeah, I use "guitar" amps myself. The acoustic amp will work, though, if you want to keep it really clean. Keyboard amps are similar and another option. I've played guitar through those. Stay away from using distortion with any amp containing a tweeter or you may fry it.
