Im attempting to learn a song from a band i like and the tunning is dadgbe and the tab i looked at is as follow..

b -
g 5
d 3
a 3
d 3

im guessing this is a power chord of some sorts in this tunning am i correct? and where does the extra note come from?

Well, that's dropped D tuning.

And holding those notes gives you F/C/F/C
which is an F5 power chord doubled. (F5 like holding a regular tuned guitar with the E string at the 1st fret (F)
and the A string at the 3rd fret (C))

This way gives it a bit more jangle, like a twelve string.
