Hey all. Well I am working on building a Lap Steel guitar. Well the build is moving right along.... now I need to get info on how to play it. :D

Anyone have any ideas for a starting point for learning Lap? Tunings to use, nice starter songs to learn? Im into blues if that matters. Any help would be awesome!!!!

this is a great link.
when I began lap steel I tuned it to open E. the fret markers will be the same as standard tuning, so you can hit the chords up and down the neck and it won't seem too foreign. my first bar was a Stevens. since, I use a bullet bar by Dunlop.
Rollin and Tumblin was the first song I could play.
the steelguitar forum has helpful links to tuning charts, songs, and tabs.

tunings are all over the place. but there are a few that most use for specific styles of music.
GBDGBD is a tuning I enjoy. it is on my square neck resonator. I believe it is a bluegrass tuning. I find lots of blues on it.
DADGAD is very interesting. Celtic feeling.
on standard six string guitar:
DGDGBD is a favorite of Keith Richards (only he removes the lowest string entirely).
DADGBD is a tuning Neil Young uses. I keep a guitar tuned that way.
the cool thing is if I detune the A to G I have open G tuning.
