I saw a programme on TV last night about the musicians of the Karoo region of South Africa. It's a very old music that hasn't changed in living memory (most of the players, they showed were well into 70's and 80's). Much of what they play is on oil can 3-string violins. There are also a lot of guitar players, who seem to develop their own tunings. What was interesting, though, was one of the guitarists (Hannes Coetzee, he was called) played guitar - rhythm on the lower 5 strings and melody on the high e string using a teaspoon, held in his mouth, for a slide! Pretty good he was, too.
Though I'd share that little gem.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

That's a different approach, all right! I'd like to hear it.
