I just picked up a really interesting piece of gear at a GC blowout, an SWR LA15 bass amp. I just picked it up because it was quite inexpensive- $100. I also got an EH Holy Grail for $30 and a Sabine RT7000 rack tuner for $50. Merry Christmas to me! I have been quite taken with the sound of the SWR with my '55 Stringmaster; it has a great low end, a bit too much mid and a very smooth high end. I have the mids completely scooped and the bass about midway; the treble is almost fully cranked. It sounds quite good, very accurate and unforgiving. It sounds awful with overdrive effects, so it will be clean only. That is OK, though, I prefer the sound of small tube amps for overdriven lap steel. fun stuff, if you can get one cheap.
