got one of these glass slide thingamajiggers and tuned my geetar to open G. trying to get it to sound right w/ out the buzzing and squealing and starting to get the hang of it. any suggestions on songs to start off w/? Here's a list of songs I currently am trying to learn:

Bad to the Bone ~ George Thorogood
Mean Old World ~ Eric Clapton
Mr Banker, Curtis Lowe, Freebird intro ~ Skynyrd

These songs are kinda advanced for my slide playing ability, i was hoping someone could suggest something easier like maybe a blues song. What are some goodand easy Muddy Waters or Robert Johnson songs to play slide on?

You're on some great ones! Don't try to learn 'em note for note, pick out the bare bones and do that.

Curtis Loew is in Open D or E tuning, though, and Mr. Banker works great in a D7 tuning, or at least that's how I learned it.

open G. then you have to play Rollin and Tumblin.

it is your basic 1 V VII.

I is your open chord (G)
V is the fifth fret (C)
VII is the seventh fret (D).

another is Little Red Rooster

and then Love In Vain.

all great in G.

dont forget to tip your slide up at the back so the nose points downward into the string. it will igive you nice clarity for single notes.

Oh yeah, Little Red Rooster! A big fave of mine. You need to find Howlin' Wolf's version and listen to it.

I'm fairly certain that Mean Old World (Duane Allman playing slide) is in open E.

For open G, as was said, Rollin' and Tumblin' is a great one, and very easy. Open G is cool in that you can make some really catchy, cool sounds in just a short time.

Get Howlin Wolf's London Sessions. Before he actually plays the song there is about a minute to a minute and a half where you hear Wolf actually TEACHING Clapton how to play it

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

i have a version of little red rooster w/ Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters that is sweet, i'll have to find the london sessions version though. Rollin and tumblin sounds like a good one to learn also.

The guitar pro tab i have of Mean old world is in open G and sounds pretty good, I dont know about tuning my 60's Stella parlor to open E, it might fall apart! I was trying to play the Skynyrd slide parts in standard tuning, thanks for all the tips!

"Love Spreads" by the Stone Roses is an awesome slide song that i had forgotten about!

I dont know about tuning my 60's Stella parlor to open E, it might fall apart! Use Open D. Same thing, a step lower. If you want to play in E, capo on the second fret. Or use light strings, like 10s or even 9s, and tune it on up.

Thanks for the tip, Ricochet. Could u tell me how to tune down to a "D7"? Mr Banker is one of my favorites.

If anyone wants them, I have tabs for "Rollin' & Tumblin'" and for "Red Rooster"

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Greybeard: I'd love to see both. The current tabs I've got for those are not very good. Can you put 'em in the ESD?
