When I tune down a whole step some of my strings rattle. Can I change gauge to get rid of it or should I adjust the truss rod? Any suggestions?

Go up a step or two in gauges. Tuning a whole step lower makes a lot of difference, so try one step heavier and if they still rattle go up one more. You'll also get a fatter sound from using heavier strings.
