Hello to all
This week you get an assignment that focuses on the music aspect of songwriting - specifically the song structure.
We're going to use a blues song format but instead of the typical twelve-bar blues style, your task is to write a song in the format of eight bar blues (in a major key). The way this works is:
1st bar: Root chord
2nd bar: V chord
3rd bar: IV chord
4th bar: IV chord
5th bar: Root chord
6th bar: V chord
7th bar: Root chord
8th bar: Turnaround (or V chord)
So, for example, if you decide to play blues in the key of E, your chords would be:
1st bar: E
2nd bar: B
3rd bar: A
4th bar: A
5th bar: E
6th bar: B
7th bar: E
8th bar: Turnaround (which ends on the B)
Of course, 7 chords are more than welcome, as are 9 chords.
You'll hear this eight bad format used in songs like "Key to the Highway."
As always, I look forward to reading and to listening to what you come up with.
Peace
Your example has the IV chord as a "D". It should be "A".
Thank you!
I've corrected it.
Peace
