Y11W42 The 7½ Floor of the Mertin Flemmer Building
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12462386
Is John in?
Is he in?
How’s he looking? Where’s he been?
Is John in?
Is he in?
I brought two hundred dollars so let’s begin
Chorus
The 7 ½ floor of the Mertin Flemmer Building
The 7 ½ floor with its low office ceiling
Behind LesterCorp there’s something more
Behind a file cabinet on the 7 ½ floor
I’m alright
I’m alright
15 minutes till the New Jersey Turnpike
Scratch that itch
Scratch that itch
Am I really me or am I John Malkovich?
chorus
Behind LesterCorp there’s something more
Behind a file cabinet on the 7 ½ floor
I love that movie. It tickles my quirks.
Hi John,
I love that movie. It tickles my quirks.
It's hard to think of another movie like it :D
This is one of those songs where knowing the movie helps understand the lyrics.
Thanks for the listen and post :D
James
Hi James
When possible, I try to listen to these without first reading the lyrics. After all, when we play out or have someone else hear our songs they don't usually have the luxury of having a full set of lyrics in front of them.
The reason for bringing this up is that, just listening to the first two verses before getting to the "I've brought two hundred dollars" line (and totally ignoring the title, I might add!), I though this might be a tribute to John Lennon. The song has that "it's familiar but in an unfamiliar way" vibe that both Lennon and Ray Davies use so well in their writing.
Very nicely done, sir! Now I'm going to have to dig out that DVD from somewhere among the many boxes of things we've not gone through yet!
Peace
Hi David,

Good point
The song has that "it's familiar but in an unfamiliar way" vibe
That's encouraging.
Now I'm going to have to dig out that DVD from somewhere among the many boxes of things we've not gone through yet!
Happy digging! :P
