This is my first attempt so be gentle.
The quote comes from an old prime minister I cant remember which one.
There are a couple of lines in there I'm not all that happy with so shall we call it work in progress.

So here goes..........................

You won the dream
you won the prize
you got what you wanted
Even though it destoyed our lives
Now you live in your happy little world
fearing the people who threw the knives

Sometimes life seems endless
Sometimes life seems good
one thing I know for sure
You've never had it so good
Oh yeah , you've never had it so good

The dream has moved on
the prize has moved out
you've travelled so far
with your new found sea-scout
Do you ever stop to think what its about?
Too busy to halt your use of the sushi-bar

Sometimes life seems endless
Sometimes life seems good
one thing I know for sure
You've never had it so good
Oh yeah , you've never had it so good

Your life's been a dream
but the prizes are real
I will support them like carbon steel
Your friendship has gone and I dont really care
your buddies have come to stand and stare, oh yeah

Sometimes life seems endless
Sometimes life seems good
one thing I know for sure
You've never had it so good
Oh yeah , you've never had it so good

Sometimes life seems endless
Sometimes life seems good
one thing I know for sure
You've never had it so good
Oh yeah , you've never had it so good

Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

Harold MacMillan was the former PM you were looking for, Rodders.....and the next time the video for "I Want To Break Free" by Queen comes on, take a look at the headline in the newspaper Brian May's reading....

Glad you could join us here in the SSG, mate....

Pretty good effort, I reckon....just a couple of minor points....

"Now you live in your happy little world
fearing the people who threw the knives"....

It wouldn't actually be a happy little world if you lived in fear of knife-wielding maniacs....maybe it might read better something like

"Now you live in your happy little world
Ignoring those who brandish the knives".....

"you've travelled so far
with your new found sea-scout".....

I don't actually understand the reference here....

And maybe you could swap the last two lines round in the second verse, to preserve the same rhyming scheme you have in the first....

I like it though, it hits the target it's aimed at....doesn't need much, just a bit of tweaking....

:D :D :D

Thanks Vic I hear what you are saying. Yeah I did struggle a bit on those verses. The sea-scout thing is a reference for me, in that it means something to me rather than the listener.
But thanks for the pointers.
I am going to continue working on this one though and post the finished article when completed to my satisfaction. As I said it is only a work in progress.
I only started it today at about 1.00pm and didnt get much of a chance if I wanted to meet the deadline that I rightly or wrongly thought there would be for wk5.
Thanks again Vic your a pal

Welcome to SSG Rodders

first attempt ?

Where have you been hidding ?

I like it , there is plently of imagery for the reader and remember that songs always sound better then they do read .

Eample :
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

Reading that to me isn't that good but listening to it well hey thats rock and roll .. Can anyone name that song ?

L.K

Nope, I'll have to pass on that one LK...a bit flowery, a bit Tolkien -- wasn't written by an Aussie and that's for sure!!!!

Clues? Is it an old Rolf Harris song?

:D :D :D

I am amazed Vic ...

A young rocker like you needs hints ...

Think heavy Rock and Roll .. early 70's

Yes Rolf Harris did have a version but it was more of a send up version ..

Here is another verse Vic this might help you

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder

And if that don't help here is a BIG hint , I reckon I was almost ready to WALK UP THAT STAIRWAY this year when I had my health problems ???????????????

PLease no-one tell Vic ... come on Vic my legs are heavy feel like they are full of LEAD ......

Hmmm - I thought I was being gently ironic in a vaguely trying-to-amuse sort of way there...

Obviously that one went down like a lead balloon.....
