On some of the other forums I read, when you go into a topic (like this one), there is a button at the top of the screen that says "View Last Read Post" or "Next Unread Post" or something like that. When there is a topic that's 15 pages of discussion, and you read a lot, but don't remember the last page number, that "Next Unread Post" button is handy for finding where you left off.

How is that different than the little arrow that points to the latest unread post in a thread? It's next to the title of the thread.
