Both of those basses look nice.
In general, the issue with Squiers is manufacturing variation. Some people, like yourself, find a really good guitar, and others get one with bad electronics or nasty frets or other problems.
You don't have a cheap guitar, you've got good value for your money.

I agree with laz, i got a squire tele (standard) $200 us. and i like it alot, i have a strat standard and the tele compares nicely to it. You just have to try a few out. also with squire your better of to go with the standard, the affinities are not as well made.-the dog
Hey, did anyone here ever play an old squier bass from the early 80's???? Many old bass players regard them as the "unsung holy grail" of basses. I happen to have a jazz from that time period, and it's just as good as any fender out there.
Don't know about Squier basses, but I bought a Squier strat last year, and just bought a Squier tele....tried two fenders, couple of Gibsons, picked up the Squier tele and thought "That's the one!"....and saved 300 quid to boot.....
