Just bought a Freshman bass.....sounds alright through the Fender Frontman amp, sounds even better on the "clean" setting on the Roland Cube.....but.....am I going to damage these amps, playing bass through them? Even though the volume's never been turned up much over #2....

Guitar speakers have lighter cones, voice coils, magnets, and suspensions, and are just lightly built in general compared to bas speakers. The speaker has to physically move a lot farther, and work a lot harder to make bass notes. Therefore, you could damage the speaker, perhaps even if it isn't turned up. This, of course, depends on the quality of the speaker. At any rate, it isn't even going to be close to a bass amp, sound quality wise. Guitar speakers are specially designed for the range of frequencies that guitars put out, not those that basses put out. Therefore, on the lower notes of a bass, it won't sound very good, and could possibly damage the speaker. I suppose it's okay for bedroom practice, but not much else.
