I am thinking about buying an Ibanez Bass off of ebay.

It's not a bad idea. Just be careful. I bought my PRS off E-Bay and it's perfectly great. Check out the seller. Is it a store or a person? Is it used or new? Maybe contact the seller and find out what you can about the guitar. has the seller sold anything else and what is the person's feedback like?
personally, i think its better to be able to see and play a guitar before you buy it. but i have friends who've brought guitars online, and theyre happy with them.
I've never actually bought anything on-line, except for my beloved acoustic which I got off our own revered Nick - and I wasn't disappointed wth that!
What I would do in your case though, is pop into the local store and try somethng similar, give you an idea of the feel and sound of it....and if you don't already have a bass amp, try it on one you might want to buy.....
