I am rather new to the whole bas guitar. But since i purchased my bass off the internet the E string has vibrates when i play it. If i play it low down on the fretboard its fine but if i play it higher it vibrates alot. as far as i can see the string is vibrating on the metal seperators for the frets. My mate told to me hold the string hard but i can hold it as hard as possible yet it still vibrates so is there anything i can do? as i am fed up of it sounding rubbish when i play the E string.
Sounds like you need to have the bass set up, which involves adjusting the neck curvature (called "relief") and the string height (called "action.") Very common process; take it to a guitar tech.
