Are the strings meant to have charge going through them? Because my strings buzz viciously when they're not being touched and this is reduced, but still occurs when I touch them.

For sustain and tonal quality purposes, is it better to have the recess in your guitar body minimised to the size of only the bare essential space required?

Do you have singlecoils? If you do sounds like a grounding problem. If your handy pull off the pickgaurd and check your wiring.

Yes I do have single coils. It also makes an excessive buzz when the volume pot is slightly dislodged, so I think there's a loose connecxtion there too.
