would i form the dmajor chord? and play those string on those frets?
Personally, I would play that lick like this:
e------------------------------------
b-----------------------10i----------
g-----------11m-12r------------------
D-----------------------------12r----
A------------------------------------
E------------------------------------
Now, wasn't that a whole lot easier? :D
That may be incorrect tab, happens all the time. But perhaps it was correct. If so, I would play it exactly the same, just jump down quick to the last note and probably play with the index (depends on what the next series of notes are).
But one of the secrets to playing well is to make playing as simple and easy as possible. I would play that last note on the D string.
Yes, this can be done by playing a F shape chord at the 10th fret for a D Major chord.

thanks wes your a genius!
so what does the m, r or i stand for in your tab
Jeremy
i= index finger
m= middle finger
r= ring finger
p= pinky finger
t= thumb
Those fingerings are just suggestions.
That lick can also be played on the 2nd and 3rd strings with a little mini barre with your index. Has more chime this way.

Is this No Rain by Blind Melon? Sure sounds like it, beautiful song.
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watchin the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
And speak my point of view but itts not sane, its not sane
I just want someone to say to me
I'll always be there when you wake
Ya know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today
So stay with me and I'll have it made
And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that theres no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
It rips my life away but its a great escape...escape...escape
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
You don't like my point of view
Ya think that I'm insane
Its not sane... its not sane
I just want someone to say to me
I'll always be there when you wake
Ya know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today
So stay with me and I'll have it made

Wes,
do you have the chords for this one? ;)
I've just been arranging this for acoustic myself. I'm playing it in A (The original is in E I think), as I can't reach anywhere near as high as Hoon could, and one octave down made it sound like it was sung by Barry White... transpose as you see fit :)
I've bracketed the C in the verse, as it's fairly arbitrary. On the live versions he quite often didn't play it.
Verse: A G D (C) A
Chorus: A G
Timing as follows:
A G
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
D (C) A
I like watching the puddles gather rain
...
A G A G
I just want someone to say to me (oh, oh, oh, oh)
A G A G
"I'll always be there when you wake"
cheers, any strumming pattern advice, please? ;)
As it's an arrangement, I tend to just improvise it. I'm doing a single rake for the verses and singing them quite softly, then getting louder and using a basic D DU UDU for each chord in the chorus at the moment. It sounds good like that to me, but I'm really not one for sticking too close to originals, so YMMV :mrgreen:
