Been playing acoustic since Christmas and was starting to build up some rather nice calluses on my left digits to the point where I can play for hours now without much pain.
One thing I've noticed lately is that my finger tips have soften a bit, but I can still play no problem as before. Is this normal? Or should your finger tips stay hard and dry?
Does that make sense?

As time passes your calluses will get deeper and less noticeable on the surface. Every once in awhile if I am playing more than my normal 2 hours or so a day I notice a little peeling but it goes away.
That's exactly what's happening to my fingers, thanks Nils, I thought I was going soft in my old age - next stop wrinkly!!!
