I gave the song a listen last night. it is really quite a simple chord pattern. nothing fancy at all.

it is : I V I VI V I.

what the heck does that mean!?

the song I have is played in Bb. so that will be the I chord.

the second chord is F. that is the V chord.

lthe last chord is Eb. that is the Iv chord.
Ive found in older cowboy music that B flat and the progression is quite common.

I changed the chords to suit my voice. you can do the same thing. just remember the I V VI pattern.

so starting from the top.

I count eight beats then
V for eight beats then back to
I for eight beats then

IV for four beats
V for four beats
and I for four beats.
that's the pattern.

ink it up to the verse and you'll get the feel.

I made my I chord a D. the V chord became A7 ( the 7th I added ; it sounds good)
the IV chord is G.

the song picks out a melody part. you can nail that by finding the notes within the chord shape. just lift a finger. very simple.

I dont finger pick but hybrid pick. I hold the pick with thumb and index finger and use my middle finger to pluck the singlenotes. kinda like Merle Travis; except he used a thumb pick and a finger pick on his index .

there you go.

oh...at times I thought I heard the song play the pattern differently...ie. I IV V istead of the way I wrote.
but checking over and over I was right the first time. however, I doesnt sound goofy the other way.
