I'm a newbe here....HELP!!!

Can anyone recommend a good michrophone in the $50.00 and under price range?

Also, on sites like Soundclick, DMusic, etc.., can you over dub? Meaning.., can I record a rhythm guitar track, then add lead guitar, then vocals? If I sound like a dummie here....it's because I am when it comes to recording on a computer.

not sure what you mean by over-dubbing on soundclick.
check out musicians friend for good budget mics
and search or browse the "in the studio" forum further down the page for loads of related info

Well that is what you would do with Audacity or N-Track or a similar style program. You use those to record, not SoundClick. You just upload the files to the site, but record them in a program. Layering would seem to be the easiest way to record into a program like Audacity.

Thanx for the clarification OHG, i should have been clearer.

i know what over dubbing is i just didn't understand that you thought that you could record on soundclick.

you need some gear, mic/s, mixer (optional), decent soundcard, recording interface/software.
and like i said above we have an entire forum dedicated to this.

I just bought the Shure PG58 vocal mic. I think it retails for right around $60 (I'm sure you could find it on musiciansfriend.com or some other store). I haven't had time to do a whole lot with it yet, but we used the same mics in the band I'm in, and they work great for live stuff...and the little recording I've done with them has sounded nice so far. If I record something here soon, I'll let you know so you can give it a listen. Best of luck finding something!

Hi Roadwulf
Why not try the Behringer XM8500 dynamic mic, it´s a good copy of a Shure SM 58.
Ony $20 at http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-XM8500-Microphone?sku=270490&src ="3SOSWXXA"
But you will probably need to use a small Mixer(with pre amp) or a separate mic pre-amp to use this mic with a normal PC soundcard. This type of semiprofessional dynamic mic has a lower output level than the mic input of PC soundcard is designed for.

I am using Kristal Audio Engine http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/ to do the type of multitrack (overdubbing) recordings you describe.
I like it better than Audacity and it supports the use of ASIO 2 (low latency) drivers (Audacity is not) wich makes it possible to do low latency (delay between tracks) recordings a with fairly lowcost soundcard. I am using the free ASIO4ALL Asio 2 driver.
But I am doing the .mp3 <-> .wav file conversion with audacity.

Yamaha RGX 320FZ electric guitar/Egnater Tweaker 15 amp.
Yamaha RBX 270 bass/Laney DB 150 amp.

I agree with Kalle about Kristal. I prefer to use it for vocals but I prefer Audacity for mixing it all together and recording guitar and such. .

I bookmarked these from a post on another forum. My apologies to the original poster, he did all the work and I can't remember where I got it.

Tiny Wave Editor - very cool because it integrates with Kristal. Not that there is anything wrong with Audacity.
