This might sound silly lol...
but what does it mean when its like F#/G for example.

It's that "/" which confuses me.... does it mean quickly change chords in one beat?

thanks in advance

Mike

Mikers.

Almost certainly the chord AFTER the slash is the bass note to play.

For instance D/f# means a D chord xx0232 but played with a f# bass note so it becomes 2x0232

A frequent one is C/G. This is a C chord x32010 with a G bass so it becomes 332010.

Does that make sense?

Cheers

it sure does thanks,

but wat is it generally used for? like your examples just seem to make the chords sound stronger in tone?
But thats just my opinion..

Mikers

Its got a number of uses, sometimes just to give a different "feel" to a chord.

Try playing an A x02220 then an A/f# 202220 - sound Purple Rainy?

Or sometimes just to incorporate a nice descending bass line -

G
D/f#
Em
For instance, so on low E you are going 3 - 2 - 0

That's all i know, not an expert in this at all!

Cheers

Or - try fingering a normal first position D chord, and play:

xx0232
x4x232
x2x232
x0x232

you'll need to use your fingers for best results instead of a plectrum. Play the bass note, and follow it with the three top strings - bass, top, next bass, top, next bass, top and so on. the perfect descending bass line.

Best,

A :-)
