I was looking at a tab for a song and saw this:
http://www.geocities.com/mybrucesite/akkallthewayhome.txt

{d: C 1 0 1 0 2 3 -1}
{d: D 1 2 3 2 0 0 -1}
{d: D7 1 2 1 2 0 0 -1}
{d: G 1 3 0 0 0 2 3}
{d: Am 1 0 1 2 2 0 -1}

What does the 1 at the beginning mean?
Does the -1 at the end mean NOT to play that string?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I can't make any sense out of that at all! Can you give us the link to the tab?

Pretty darn weird, but I think I can make some sense out of it.

the {d on each line doesn't seem to mean anything

The next bit is the chord name - Am, D7 etc

The next number might be the position - these are all shown as open chords, which is 'first position'

The rest of it, up to the } shows the fretting - in reverse order from most tabs... from the high E string down to low E. A '-1' in the sequence is a muted string.

I really hate the way folks keep making up new notations.

I'd take a guess that this tab is attached to some kind of software and that the odd structure is what he uses to parse the chord (or, perhaps even melody) in his program.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I can translate it for you:
C = X32010
D = XX0232
D7= XX0212
G = 320003
Am= X02210

X= string not played
Left to right low E to High E strings

The minus whatever number means you hammer on or pull off that number.

You'll have to listen to the song to hear which note it is and which context is used.

I don't think it's a hammer/pull in this context - because every chord name is followed by a '1' (which I've guessed at position), and after that come either six positive numbers, or five positive numbers plus a -1. So I'm pretty sure this is just a way to show a muted string in this context.
