I need help on how to finger these chords:

Dsus4/F# (also, what does the slash (/) mean?)
G/F#
G/F
Em7
/F#
Bm

Pictures of the finger position would be great.
Thank you.

I'm sure someone else will be able to answer the rest of your questions well, but I'll take a stab at the slash chords.
The note following the slash is the new bass note of the chord. So for the G/F# you would finger a G chord and then change the bass to a F# (2nd fret 6th string).

hope that helps!

I'll try to help a little........

A G/F is fingered 300021 (which means to fret the first string at the 3rd fret, leave the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings open, fret the 5th string at the second fret and fret the sixth string at the first fret).

G/F# is fingered 300022 (exactly the same except for the sixth string which is now fretted at the second fret instead of the first).

I'm not sure about the Dsus4/F#....

And, did you want the Em7/F#? (it sort of looks that way, but I'm not sure and I don't want to confuse you).

Bm is fingered 234420 (and is usually played as a barre, with the first finger fretting the first five strings on the second fret, second finger on third fret, third finger on the two strings on the fourth fret.)

Hope that helps! :D

I found the Dsus4/F#. It's fingered 2x0233.

And the Em7/F# is fingered 2200xx.

Oh! The X's mean "don't play that string".

Elektra - Are you left handed? I see you've written the chords as they would look for a left handed player. i.e., G/F as 300021 instead of 120003

But the two late additions that you found (Dsus 4/G) aand Em7/F# are written the more usual right handed way.
I'm not sure why they put those Xs there in Em7/F#. Those are valid chord tones. It should be 220000

I agree fretsource; Elektra's examples are a bit confusing. :?

Here is a site to help with any chords you need: Chord House Just click the drop-down menues and look for the chord you need, click it & the chord will be displayed. For the "slash chords", there is a seperate drop-down for them, and if you are looking up say: Dsus4/f#; just add the F# fingering to your Dsus4 chord. (the slash chords don't include sus4, etc.). Hope that helps.

Elektrablue's examples are correct.

If you printed that part of the page and laid it over your guitar neck, the strings would line up in the right order; just like when you print a chord box.

Also, chord configurations and chord boxes are only ever printed in right-handed format, so when you see something like 2x0233 the 6th (fattest) string is on the left and the 1st (thinnest) string is on the right.

Best,

A :-)

Most of what you say is correct. Apart from specialised publications for lefties, the standard way to write chords is from left to write, bass to treble.
Where you're NOT correct is in saying that Elektra's diagrams are correct. Her explanations are correct but she has written the diagrams from right to left, exactly as they would line up on a left handed guitar.
G/F, for example should be 120003 NOT 300021.

In her follow-up post she added two chords, , e.g., 2X0233, that she copied from somewhere else. Those are written correctly.

Nah - nothing more to argue Elektra. :D
We're agreed that chords should be written from left to right - bass to treble. Even a leftie told me recently that trying to read them the opposite way would feel awkward now that he's used to seeing them the standard way.
Your first post has them the wrong way but your second post has them the right way. Alan probably missed your first post and picked up on the second (correct) post, not helped by the fact that I quoted your second post instead of the first one.
