Put your fingers on the 5-6-7-8 frets of the low E. Then raise the fingers off of the frets as high as you can on the 5th and 7th but keep down the ones one the 6th and 8th. Then switch it around. If this doesn't make sense sorry, it's early.

I have a whole set that I use. For each of these I go up (eg 1-2-3-4) in a fixed positions and hit all of the strings (E to A to D etc) then i shirt up a position and come down (fingers in reverse, e.g. 4-3-2-1) while moving accross the strings in the opposite direction (e to B to G etc):

1-2-3-4 in 16ths (your standard )
1-3-4 in triplets
1-2-4 in triplets
1-3-2-4 in 16ths (a good one to work finger independece)
1-4-3-2 in 16ths (a little trickier still)

for even more of a challenge, try doing them all as hammer-on/pull-offs

spider crawl:
on two strings. start with adjacent strings, then with an unplayed string between, then two, etc.
i m r p i m r p i m r p
---1--2--3--4--2--3--4--5--3--4--5--6--etc
---3--4--1--2--4--5--2--3--5--6--3--4--etc
r p i m r p i m r p i m

then, when you get up as high as you can on the neck, go back down backwards.

it's a real workout.
