My main interest is fingerstyle and have been learning various patterns for more than a year and have also concentrated only on reading songs like solo fingerstyle directly off fingerstyle tab or notation. Please give any pointers you can regarding how to "go it alone" or "improvise" in fingerstyle when you have only a song with the chord symbols above the bars. Are there any general rules of thumb (rules of fingers???) to keep in mind when trying to devise a way to pick within that chord or anything to avoid? Everything is much appreciated folks!
