I have been working on leaving on a jet plane, and just a down strum is rather boring. But I can't quite get the strum pattern figured out. Any help would be great thanks.
I am addicted to the guitar, just like I am addicted to air and water.
I think the last time I played this tune I strummed d-d- u-u-d-u. I find myself trying that variation a lot and it seems to work.
Good luck.
Treat others how you would like to be treated.

I use the same pattern. Funny how that pattern fits so many songs.
Apologies in a advance if this is a stupid question  but ...
I often have troubles determining the timing of a particular strum pattern, such as the dduudu above. So how would this fit with the beat?
For example, would it be something like:
1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a 1
D D U U D U D
or is it more a case of a repeating pattern within each measure, such as:
1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a 1
D D U U D U D D U U D U D
Thanks in advance. :)

That was a great question Bennett, I would like to hear an answear to it also. So anybody that can help, let us know.

That is probably an eighth note strum, where you strum down on the beat and up on the "and"
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and…
/ / / / / / / / / / / / …
d d u u d u d d u u d u
So counting out loud it would be one, two and, and four and, one, two and, and four and...
You would probably put a little more stress or accent on the "one, two and" . I hope you know what I mean.

Thanks for the response, Wes!
Sounds so simple I wonder why I had trouble in the first place. :P
Thanks again!

yes I play it the pattern posted by Wes. I think it is better if you play the first down with a bass note only (not full chord). I guess that in 2 measure of D in the chorus the pattern change to D du D du (first measure) D du u Du (2nd measure) but you could also play d/du/u/du
