I found a mic I'm interested in, the Behringer UltraVoice XM8500 Dynamic Cardioid Mic. I plan to use it for both acoustic & electric guitar as well as vocals. Anyone familiar with this mic? Also, the mic input on my computer (Compaq Presario) is much smaller than the standard mic input on my Fender Frontman amp. Do I need to get an adapter for the mic so I can plug it into my computer?

Hi Roadwolf
The XM 8500 is good mic and can be used for recording vocals and acoustic guitars.
But it has 3-pin XLR male connecior and needs needs a mic cable with a XLR female connector in one end and a 1/4" male jack in the other end plus a adapter connector ( 1/4" female mono jack -> 1/8" male stereo jack) to connect it to the 1/8 " female stereo mic input jack on the soundcard.
The mic inputs on standard PC soundcards are not very good and should not be used for recordings.
An external mic pre-amp or a small mixer with mic pre-amp connected to the line input of the soundcard gives much better sound quality.
