Hey there! I started learning guitar about 4 months ago and I've made some good progress I can play quite a few things including "Highway to hell" by ACDC and many other things of that difficulty, I can also play an A minor pentatonic scale and I can play must of the open chords without any trouble BUT whats really getting me is the ability to play a solo, I've mastered Hammer ons and Pull offs but I don't have any cool sounding solo in my itinary(spelling!?) so someone please help!!

And the guy from mans music in Colchester - could your boss match the price on the Fender strat?

Thanks guys!

Peace out!

Sounds like you are off to a great start. :D I would pick a solo that you like and get some tab for it and work on it a little each day until you get it down. Once you have learned one solo the next is easier and soon you will be able to pick out solos by ear. from there you will start creating your own solos. Also start learning riffs ( I think Paul Hackett has tabbed out several on the lesson page).Don't get discouraged, if you get stuck with something go on to something else and come back to it. Have fun.--ken

creating an original solo is hard. either it happens as an inspiration or it is thought and plotted out.
I do neither as well as I want.

when I look at a solo I see a couple of things needed.
define what kind of solo you want to do: a short phrase between choruses? a long 12 bar break, as in blues?
some double stops between lyrics? an intro or outtro?
then look at the scale and use the notes to tell your story.
it could be a take on the melody or something with a cool hook.
my favorite players imagine the feeling of the verse and what the notes would sound like.
it isnt easy.
