My first couple of weeks playing was on a classical guitar. Hell on the wrists and finger muscles, but those nylon strings were easy on the fingertips. I developed callouses in just a week or so, and never really experienced pain beyond the odd numb and/or tingly sensation.
You ain't gonna get any sore fingertips while you play that slide ! 8)
