String holes?

I'm thinking about bidding on a guitar on Ebay, but the seller says there is some damage to the string holes. He says the guitar still plays fine. I have no idea what string holes are. Should I be worried about this? Do string holes affect sound?
Any help would be appreciated.

maybe he means the hole in the tuners to put the strings in, im not really sure. If it is, all you need to do is replace the tuners

It really depends on what kind of guitar it is and what holes they are talking about. It could be the tuners as mentioned, the tailpiece, the bridge, the holes and pins on an acoustic or it could be from underneath.

Tell us what kind of guitar it is and maybe we can "guess" better.

It's a fender telecaster (MIM).

I think he means the through-body string holes. On a lot of a Teles the strings are fed in the back of the guitar, through the body, and out the bridge.

It might be missing the string ferrules, little metal dealies that protect the edge of the openings on the back.
