Three part question.

1. When i play a C chord or A chord, the 6th (closest to ceiling) string isnt suppossed to be played. Right now i just put my Right handed thumb on the sixth string and strum down. WHen i play a D or F chord i Put my thumb on the 5th string and strum down. Is this the right way to strum when you play?

2. During an upstroke, the sound doesnt sound as clear as a downstroke. Is there any tips on this.

3. When you play a chord that has the 1st and 2nd strings muted, how do you play that.

thumb over the top is ok for some chords.
in fact, it works for alot of things.
forming the F chord positon with thumb over the top use the thumb to hit the low two strings. then with the same position move up two frets and you are playing G. same thing up the neck and you will have another and another chord.

if you look at it you are simply making barre chords without using the index finger for the barre.

when you dont want to play the top two strings then use surgical picking...meaning watch where you pick/dont hit the strings/mute them with the barre finger/mute them with the right hand palm.

make sense?

twisted,

You can do what your doing but after awhile you get to where you will only hit the bottom 4 or 5 strings as needed. It will be second nature but not until you.............practice, practice, practice

It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!
