I live on Long Island,NY and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good teacher. I have had a difficult time finding the right one. Been through 2 and still not happy. One was way too technical and one just plays songs. Any inpuit would be great.

Epiphone Valve Junior combo be a good small amp. I have read many reviews and this seems to be a great amp for a great price. I am really not interested in all the effects etc.. with the other amps. If I want that I will use pedals. My other question is there a mod to be able to use headphones for this amp.

Greg what kind of music do you like?

I can definitly recommend a great teacher, did wonders for me. But if you're not going to practice, you shouldn't bother. He will verbally kick your ass if he can tell you didn't practice what he gave you, and he will be able to tell. (it's a good thing, keeps you practicing)

He's there to teach, not to take your money, so he has a pretty specific way of teaching. He WILL teach you how to play a song from a CD once in a while, but he doesn't like doing it.

He's an incredible jazz/blues musician, and I'd really recomend him if you are interested in those things.

He starts off with a lot of simple songs, Beatles stuff, etc, for chords, and also the basic ABCDEFG scales (does like 2 a week I think) and some basic sight reading, as well as the 12 bar blues. Eventually he gets into the pentatonic scale and improvising, jazz chords, triads, arpeggios, jazz standards, etc. (this is ALL depending on where you are when you start going to him, if you already know stuff, he obviously won't re-teach it, lol)

His rate (a pretty good one) was $30 bucks for 45 minutes. Very reliable.

Also, once a year he has a guitar recital kind of thing, which gets you used to playing infront of other people/with other people. He sort of says "you are doing it" when he thinks you are ready, and while you can back out, it's not easy, so it's good, he kind of doesn't let you chicken out.

Let me know if you want his name/number. (I'll have to dig that number up, havnt' seen him in a long while) By the way, if you do go to him, you will have the honor of hearing him talk about how lazy I am

Taso

Where'd you say you live in Long Island? He teaches out of Roslyn ,in the Greenvale/Brookville/Manhasset area...He may make house calls, I'm not sure.

Sounds perfect for you.

My chiropractor lives in Dix Hills, I have no idea where it is though. Would Roslyn/Manhasset be too far for you?
