What does the tremolo do? After that, what's the difference between a two-point tremolo and a vintage tremolo?

Thanks! I'm looking into strats of various sizes and I'm wondering what the difference is.

they are constructed differently. go to the fender site or any manufacturer such as "floyd rose, wilkinson(sp?)" google vibrato, tremolo and you should come up with a wealth of info.

The so called 'tremolo' is actually vibrato, ie it vibrates all the strings.

People seem to have their own preferences, and I haven't played enough strats and wouldn't use a trem much anyways. I'll probably have mine blocked, which is standard practice for many artists.
floyd rose, wilkinson are locking styles that reduce the tendency of the vibrato to knock the guitar out of tune.
