say i am learning a song & it says capo in 1st fret. & the first chord to play is C. do i just leave my finger off the first fret of the B string? or do i just 'pretend' the capo is the 'top' of the guitar & just play the chord 1 ret higher up?
cheers.

The capo becomes, in effect, a temporary nut (the thing the strings pass through at the top of the neck). So if you had the capo on the first fret and it says play a C chord, you would fret the first fret above the capo on the second string (physically the 2nd fret), the 2nd above the capo on the 4th and the 3rd on the 5th.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

get a shubb, just so you get a good one and not a cheap plastic one that ruins the finish on the neck. 8)

Edit...
Oops, I misread the question. I thought it asked what was his first capo lesson, not who can name them all first. Carry on.
