or there's always this one...a little late, but this kind of gift would work for Valentine's Day too. You'd have to rearrange it for guitar a little bit...but hell, that would impress her right? hahaha.

on a more serious note...i've always been a fan of "crash into me" by the dave matthews band to play to girls. there are a couple different ways that you can play it that make it a little easier on yourself.

"Heavy decibels are playing on my guitar
We got vibrations comin' up from the floor
We're just listenin' to the rock
That's givin' too much noise....
Rock and roll ain't noise pollution"

Speaking as a woman ..... :D

There's one song that I would LOVE for a special man to sing to me on a romantic evening! It's "My Sweet Girl" by John Hiatt. I looked for tab, but couldn't find it, but you can hear the whole song here ... http://www.hotget.com/music/John-Hiatt-My-Sweet-Girl,234607.html?PHPSESSID=9f21acf727eba2ceb7ee13729a6d3d7d It's a simple little thing. I'm sure you could work it out!

Here are the lyrics:

My sweet girl with your eyes so bright
Don't leave me in the dark tonight
The sun's turned down, the moon is low
And I know secrets you don't know

Do you hear the wind whisperin'
You're the one I love
The summer breeze tells the trees
I'm the one, because
You're my sweet girl

Hold me now in this sweet life
I will take you for my wife
We can walk the aisle in this city park
And I will offer you my heart

Married by a firefly
They're coming back, you know
And I'm the man who knows he can
Provide an afterglow
For you, my sweet girl
'Cause you're my sweet girl

Do, do, do, do, do, doodle, do, doodle, doodle, do, do, do, do, do....
Do, do, do, do, do, doodle, do, doodle, doodle, do, do, do, do, do.... doodle, doodle, do, do, do

My sweet girl, do you know you are
My lovely dream, my little star
In a blanket made of earth and sky
Curled up with my sweetie pie

The love we make, it merely takes
Our breath out of the air
We kiss and then we breath again
The wind blows through your hair
It's whispering, You're my sweet girl
Can you hear it? It's saying, You're my sweet girl
You're my sweet girl

Do, do, do, do, do, doodle, do, doodle, doodle, do, do, do, do, do....
Do, do, do, do, do, doodle, do, doodle, doodle, do, do, do, do, do....

How about Hummingbird by Leon Russell? The lyrics go as follow.

"Sometimes I get impatient,
but she cools me without words
And she comes so sweet and so plain,
my hummingbird and have you heard,
that I thought my life had ended
But I find that it's just begun,
'cause she gets me where I live
I'll give all I have to give
I'm talking about that hummingbird
Oh she's little and she loves me,
too much for words to say
When I see her in the morning sleeping,
she's little and she loves me
To my lucky day
Hummingbird don't fly away

When I'm feeling wild and lonesome
she knows the words to say
And she gives me a little understanding,
in her special way
And I just have to say,
in my life I loved a woman
Because she's more than I deserve,
and she gets me where I live
I'll give all I have to give
I'm talking about that hummingbird
Oh she's little and she loves me,
too much for words to say
When I see her in the morning sleeping,
she's little and she loves me
To my lucky day,
hummingbird don't fly away"

"You Are So Beautiful" by Billy Preston & Bruce Fisher. 8)

Joe Cocker sang it.

Couldn't miss with that one, surely?

The lyrics seem to be various permutations of this:

You are so beautiful, yes
You are to me
You are so beautiful
You are to me
Can't you see? Can't you see?
You are everything I hoped for
And you are everything I need
And you are so beautiful to me

You are so wonderful
So wonderful to me
You are so wonderful, baby
Can't you see, can't you see, baby
You're everything I hoped for and
You're everything, yeah everything
God knows you're everything to me

You are so wonderful
You are so wonderful
So beautiful, so beautiful
You are so beautful
To me

Cheers,

Chris

PS Don't forget to set up your video cam for the performance (just the musical one will be fine). There's a big crowd gathered here now who'll be wanting to see how well it went over. :P

How about:

I CAN HELP
Billy Swan

If you got a problem, don't care what it is
If you need a hand, I can assure you this
I can help, I got two strong arms
I can help

It would sure do me good to do you good
Let me help

It's a fact that people get lonely, ain't nothing new
But a woman like you baby should never have the blues
Let me help, I got two for me
Let me help

When I go to sleep at night you're always a part of my dream
Holding me tight and telling me everything I wanna hear
Don't forget me baby, all you gotta do is call
You know how I feel about you, if I can do anything at all
Let me help, if your child needs a daddy, I can help

It would sure do me good to do you good
Let me help

When I go to sleep at night you're always a part of my dream
Holding me tight and telling me everything I wanna hear
Don't forget me baby, all you gotta do is call
You know how I feel about you, if I can do anything at all
Let me help, if your child needs a daddy, I can help

It would sure do me good to do you good
Let me help

Margaret

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~

Seems women aren't fond of "Wonderful Tonight" and personally I have to agree. I was trying to think songs that weren't too hard to sing or play especially since you have less than a week to learn'em now. I'll be your baby tonight - Bob Dylan, at least I know it by Dylan if he isn't the original. I love the song 'Into the Mystic' - Van Morrison but not sure how difficult to play. I am not too helpful, most rock and blues I listen to, you are either longing or have been scorned.

It's not easy being green.... good thing I'm purple.

I'm single...again.. and after two divorces and many years..i'm a little tainted. i'd like to hook up with one that didn't need a song (or a corporate holiday) to be secure about my love.
So.. How about Jerry Jeff Walker's Ramblin Scramblin....?
If you find the lyrics i'd like them.

If you must... Clapton (wonderful tonight)

If I don't remember it....It didn't happen

Leonard Cohen is unbeatable as a lyricist in the subjects of love. Here a couple of examples:

Our Lady of Solitude

All summer long she touched me
She gathered in my soul
From many a thorn, from many thickets
Her fingers, like a weaver's
Quick and cool
And the light came from her body
And the night went through her grace
All summer long she touched me
And I knew her, I knew her
Face to face

And her dress was blue and silver
And her words were few and small
She is the vessel of the whole wide world
Mistress, oh mistress, of us all

Dear Lady; Queen of Solitude
I thank you with my heart
for keeping me so close to thee
while so many, oh so many, stood apart

And the light came from her body
And the night went through her grace
All summer long she touched me
I knew her, I knew her
Face to face

Dance me To the end of Love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Metallicas "Nothing Else Matters" is a great song to play on the acoustic guitar. It could be a bit tricky to learn it though with this short notice. It took me a month to learn properly, but that was when I just had started playing guitar. Maybe rearrange the guitar and just strum the chords instead, I don't think it would be so hard to learn then.

Another song would be

"Sorry { seems to be } " Elton John

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

One I forgot - heard it on VH1 this afternoon - Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers.....just brilliant, it's a beautiful song anyway, but the vocal performance is out of this world....

Doubtful that any song or Valentine's token will truly make one feel secure about their partner's love and affection in the big picture. It's the day-to-day that demonstrates a relationship's solidity.

That said, it's the lucky woman who does get a song, freely given, from her love on Valentine's or any other day.

That's MHO.

Though my wife ignores who Captain Beefheart is, I always sing to her a couple of lines from 'Candle Mambo' one of his most tender songs (and it's difficult to find a tender song in Captain Beefheart) ,by the way it's one of my favorite songs of all. Ladies, enjoy:

Candle Mambo

Candle shy, candle weep
Fly, hot candle, leap
Candle roll and fold in ball
Candle large, candle small

Your threads of fire burning up,
Your feathers of fire winning night
And turning light, and turning light
Light deepest night for me, and steer for me

Spin and spin
Then and then

When I'm dancing with my love the shadows flicker up above
Up above the shadows do the Candle Mambo

Candle roll and fold in ball
Candle blur, candle whir
Candle her, candle her

While your lights are spinning round,
Your feathers of fire winning night
And turning light, and turning light

Candle crack, candle break
Correct the night's mistake

When I'm dancing with my love
The shadows flicker up above
Up above, the shadows do the Candle Mambo
